Founded on "Belt's Wharf" in Historic Fells Point by a group of Baltimore merchants, Belt's was the terminal of the coffee fleet of Baltimore Merchant C. Morton Stewart and the berth of the famous ship, "The Josephine." The Josephine was the most successful vessel in the fleet and held the record for the fastest passage from Rio De Janeiro to Baltimore. Like the Josephine, Belt's roots may be on the Fells Point waterfront, but its reach is international. Over the past 150 years, Belt's has been an important contributor to the growth of the Port of Baltimore, and the emergence of Maryland as a preeminent distribution center in the Mid-Atlantic.
